Frequently asked questions (Linksys)

1. I cannot hear a dial tone and unable to place calls

Your RIP service can be interrupted by Internet or connections problem

Check all the connections whether they are firmly fixed into the ports, if the light indicators are not glowing properly, it may be necessary to restart your network devices and RIP phone adapter

Using a Router: Ensure the ethernet cable is firmly connected to both the RIP VoIP adapter Internet and the router LAN port. Verify LED status for both the router LAN port and adapter Internet port

Without Router: Verify LED status for the adapter Internet port and the modem port. If there is no light, reconnect the device and/or replace the RJ-45 cable connecting the two devices

Also make sure that the phone line is connected in 'Phone port 1' of the RIP VoIP adapter

Important: Do not press 'reset' button on the back panel of the RIP phone adapter next to the power connection

Restart all of your networking equipment in the following order

1. Turn off your equipment by unplugging power cords from the modem/adapter/router

2. Wait at least 30 seconds before turning them back on

3. Turn your equipment back on in the following order:

a. DSL or Cable modem (connect power cord to the modem)
b. RIP adapter (connect power cord to the adapter)
c. Router, if you have one (connect power cord to the router)

Be sure to allow enough time for your network devices to complete its start-up process
